This article is devoted to the philosophical anthropology, the source of which, according to the author, is an ancient philosophy. In turn, it was philosophical anthropology that became the basis of future psychology.
The article discusses the concepts of internal sources of vital force in the works of ancient Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle. The author examines in detail the peculiarities of translation of Ancient Greek concepts into Russian language; and, as a consequence, an incorrect understanding of such a concept of Plato’s psychology as «epithumia dunamis» (source of desires), and a concept of philosophy of Aristotle «boule (boulesis)» (controlled by reason desire) and horme of stoics.
