Platonic dialogue in the 12th century Byzantium: Eustathios’ “Theophilos and Hierokles”*
The dialogue of the Byzantine writer Eustathios of Thessalonike (12th c.) “Theophilos and Hierokles” considers the norms of the epistolary etiquette. It raises the question of which address is more honorable: “the most loved by God” or “the most holy”. The paper analyzes the dialogue from the point of view of its structure and style. The features of the dialogue that make it possible to attribute it to the Platonic tradition are revealed.
