Svetlana Karavaeva , CSc in Philosophy; North-Western State Medical University named after I. I. Mechnikov (Saint Petersburg, Russia), Assistant Professor

Receptions of Platonism in the cosmology of Virgil's Aeneid

The report focuses on the formation of the "Roman myth": Aeneid as a cosmological epic. In addition to revised Greek, Roman and Eastern religious ideas, the influence of philosophical (Platonic) concepts on the Aeneid is indubitable. Noteworthy are Virgil's interpretation of the image of Venus, linked to Plato's two Aphrodites (180c-185e), and the eros theme.

Keywords: Plato, Virgil, Aeneid, cosmology, Ancient Philosophy
